The fourteenth edition of the long-awaited AVIS Volleyball Tournament began on June 10th in memory of Luciana Pia CAPUANO and Ilaria PLACENTINO, victims of the earthquake in the city of L’Aquila.
The tournament has become, over time, a fixed sporting event in the San Giovannese summer which has seen a growing participation of both athletes, this year with a record number of 171, and the public, who cheer every evening, occupying all the seats seating in the Galiani outdoor gym.
New for 2024 is to have “doubled” the tournament, allowing registration in the “amateur” or “pro” group. “We are particularly happy with the 10 teams competing in the amateur group because they are mostly made up of boys and girls from high schools in our country, many of whom participated in our days to raise awareness of blood donation – say the organizers of the event . Furthermore, this year too, as usual, teams from neighboring towns have registered, such as San Marco in L. and Manfredonia; to these and other teams, athletes from San Severo and Mattinata are added for the first time. With a pinch of pride, we can say that our Association offers the opportunity to challenge and have fun for young and old, managing to cross municipal borders!
The tournament is the right opportunity for AVIS both to reiterate the importance of blood donation, especially in the summer period, when supplies in hospitals are scarce and unforeseeable emergencies and urgencies often occur, and to contribute to the dissemination of balanced and healthy lifestyles, in which sport, in all its forms.
“We therefore invite everyone: in the morning to go and donate at the Transfusion Center of Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, from 08:00 to 12:30 and in the evening to come to the tournament to spend a few hours of healthy fun”.
