Anastasia Potapova overcomes Lucia Bronzetti in the second round of the WTA 250 in Birmingham: the number 7 seed wins with a score of 6-3, 7-5 in almost an hour and a half of play. However, an encouraging performance for the Italian who held the field well and also had the opportunity to further put her opponent in difficulty.
Potapova starts off decidedly better: the Russian player feels comfortable and shoots hard, taking time away from Bronzetti who struggles to keep a pace that isn’t up to her. The break then arrives immediately which brings the number 36 in the world to 3-0, but the girl from Romagna finally manages to enter the match after a laborious game held on serve and counterbreak, taking the lead to 3-2. The service, however, does not give her a hand and the Italian does not defend her turn again, thus losing the first set 6-3.
The Russian continues to give the sensation of being able to determine practically all the exchanges and is the first to escape even in the second set at 3-1, but Bronzetti once again manages to stay attacked and scores three games in a row, going ahead 4-3. In the eighth game there are the main regrets, with the Italian tennis player having two balls for the 5-3 and lacking a bit of malice on the chances. It then came to a photo finish and the Russian played a great return match at 5-5 and then closed the serve and won the match.
Potapova who is rewarded for the best performance on serve: 73% yield with the first serve compared to 68% of Bronzetti and 47″% with the second serve compared to 35% of the Italian, who also paid the four break points out of four not save.
