Good morning friends of OA Sport and welcome to the Live broadcast of the 1st round match of the ATP 500 in Halle between Flavio Cobolli and Hubert Hurkacz.
“Semi-impossible” debut for the Roman, who certainly wasn’t lucky in the first two draws on grass in the main draw of an ATP tournament. Last week in Stuttgart he had in fact picked up Jan Lennard Struff, one of the luxury outsiders on the lawns, who had ruled it with a 7-6, 6-3 which was also quite honorable for the Roman, who had played the 2023 Wimbledon qualifiers on the grass and nothing else. This time he was world number 9 Hubert Hurkacz to fish for the Roman, and he certainly won’t have been happy about this.
The Pole is one of the main suspects for annoying Carlos AlcarazJannik Sinner and, if there had been, Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon. Roger Federer’s last grass opponent in the Championships boasts a semi-final loss in 2021 to Matteo Berrettini, and is perhaps the second favorite to win on German grass. In short, we need a feat from Cobolli, who would not be new to major victories this season, given that the blue has now entered the dimension of the top 50 players in the world.
