Alberto Caselli from Prato and the Italian national volleyball team Sordi in search of poker, or the fourth consecutive medal in international competitions. The Italian team will try to achieve their goal at the world championships scheduled for June 20th in Okinawa, Japan. There are eight contenders for the title won by Russia four years ago. In Italy’s group, India will be opponents for the first time (21/06), followed by matches against the USA and Turkey on 23 and 24 June respectively.
In the other group the favorite Ukraine with the unknowns of Iran and France and the hosts Japanese. The quarter-finals will be held on June 27th, then the semi-finals on the 29th and the final on the 30th.
In addition to Caselli from Prato (as libero), three other Tuscans will be part of the expedition to Japan: the athlete Lorenzo Verdecchia from Migliarino, the second coach Teodoro Fischietto from Livorno and the scout Giacomo Finisini from Santa Croce.
The troop led by Matteo Zamponi aspires to at least a place in the top four, and then aims decisively to improve on the three bronze medals won at the Olympics in Brazil, at the World Championships held in Italy and at the European Championships in Turkey.
For Alberto Caselli, fresh from the season at Vintage Volleyball, the year ended with a bang with the aim of being called up for the Olympics in 2025, which will be played in November again in the land of the rising sun, this time in Tokyo.
