Montemurlo, over 100 thousand euros for the restoration of beach volleyball courts

In the aftermath of the flood of November 2nd, the Nesti municipal sports facility in via Micca in Bagnolo was an expanse of water and mud. The three uncovered beach volleyball courts suffered the most damage, where the force of the water tore down the fences and nets, carried away the sand and detached the foundation. The facility managers had even found some fish on the playing field. Six months after the flood, the Municipality has restored the full functionality of the sports facility through the activation of an emergency sum for over 100 thousand euros of works which allowed the three uncovered beach volleyball courts to be completely redone.

Thus last June 10th the 14th edition of the “Beach Volley BagnoloSport 2024” tournament was able to start regularly with the participation of 54 teams from all over Tuscany. The Bagnolo Sport company, in agreement with the municipal administration, wanted to dedicate the tournament to the memory of Lorenzo Votino, 32 years old, who died last March 15th after fighting an incurable disease. Lorenzo, son of Nicola and Daniela Agrumi, names known in the city for being the owners of the printing press of the same name and the Som music school, was a great sportsman and had many friends at the Nesti centre.

Mayor Simone Calamai and councilor Valentina Vespi also attended the competitions: «The beach volleyball tournament is always a wonderful moment of sport and socializing. After the consequences of the flood we worked to bring the plant back to optimal conditions. – says the mayor Inkwells– With a significant investment of over 100 thousand euros we have revived these outdoor beach volleyball courts (fortunately the covered court was not damaged) and given Bagnolo sport the opportunity to re-propose the beach volleyball tournament which is now a fixed event . I am also happy with the decision to dedicate the tournament to the memory of Lorenzo Votino, a young fellow citizen of ours who passed away too soon, a boy loved and well-liked by everyone.”
