CYCLING The Giro Next Gen crosses the Lodi area

The Giro d’Italia Next Gen reserved for Under 23s also made a stop in the Lodi area. The new talents of international cycling took to the streets of the surrounding area for a substantial stretch of over 70 km on the occasion of the fifth stage of the prestigious world amateur event which unfolded along a 138 km itinerary from Bergamo to Cremona. Having flown into Laudense land from Dovera, the caravan crossed the threshold of the capital at km 42 and then headed straight towards Borghetto Lodigiano and San Colombano al Lambro. The heights of Borgo Insigne have outlined the junctions with the greatest difference in altitude (350 meters in total) climbing the easy and fleeting climbs of an almost flat route. Going up the western slope of the hill from Capra the group veered towards Miradolo Terme only to then fall back onto the Mantovana state road. The “zampellotto” of the mountain grand prix on the Belfuggito climb among the bucolic slopes inlaid with vineyards is quite suggestive. Once they had reached the top of the hill, the young “tadpoles” dived back into the Po plain, entering the heart of the Bassa with passages through Ospedaletto, Senna, Somaglia, Fombio, Guardamiglio, San Rocco al Porto, Santo Stefano, Corno Giovine up to the flying finish line of Maleo which he anticipated the transit from Meleti before the final sprint. Numerous enthusiasts and cyclists flocked along the route to pay homage to the passing of the rising stars of two wheels.
