“I didn’t expect this call-up, honestly. A couple of weeks ago Gigi Datome called me to tell me to be ready to train in view of a possible call-up, but I didn’t think it could happen. Already receiving a call from Datome surprised me! It’s an achievement that makes me happy and which I think is due to many things. I have always tried to give my best all these years, trying to do my best when called on the pitch convinced to call me. As far as the Under 20s are concerned, I don’t think it’s goodbye, on the contrary the European Championship is an event that I particularly care about and which I would absolutely like to participate in. But now I want to enjoy this experience.”
