Filippo Tortu is preparing to make his debut at the European Championships 2024 in athletics, taking to the track at the Olympic Stadium in Rome to compete in the 200 meters semi-final. The sprinter from Brianza will be engaged tonight at 9.55 pm in the third and final semi-final, with the aim of reaching the final stage (the top two in each series and the two best repechage times pass) and going in search of a medal after the bronze won two years ago in Monaco.
Filippo Tortu did not stand out in his only outing of the season on the half lap of the track (20.72 at the Stadio dei Marmi), but declared that he is in good physical shape and has all it takes to do well. The blue will race in lane 8 (he boasts a personal score of 20.10 and is number 3 in the continental ranking), challenging above all two high-ranking opponents: the Frenchman Ryan Zeze (lane 6, 8.18pm staff recently) and the Israeli Blessing Afrifah (20.47 in 2024, but record of 19.16). The Swiss Felix Svensson (20.49) and the Polish Albert Komanski (20.59) appear less fearsome, while the Croatian Roko Farkas (20.89) and the Czech Ondrej Macik (20.83) are decidedly further behind.
In the other semi-finals, with a view to fighting for medals, the Frenchman Pablo Mateo stands out (20.03 in the season, in the second together with Fausto Desalu), the Dutch Taymir Burnet (20.30) and the German Joshua Hartmann (20.36) in the first series with Diego Pettorossi.
