fight for the podium, Mori out

Sara Fantini qualified with great personality for the hammer throw final at the European Championships 2024 athletics. The Emilian had opened the preliminary round at the Olympic Stadium in Rome with a positive 71.16 metersa measure that would have been enough for the passage of the round, but it doesn’t pay to return to the platform to find the right sensations: first a null, then a brilliant 72.27, with which it went beyond the admission norm set at 71.50.

The Italian record holder (capable of 75.77 in Madrid in 2022) thus obtained the ticket for the final act with the second performance of the morning, behind the Danish Katrine Jacobsen (72.88) and ahead of the French Rose Loga (71.70), the only women to exceed the norm. The Italian stopped two and a half meters away from the season mark, i.e. the 73.67 clocked in Modena on 4 May, and has all the credentials to aim for a medal after the bronze two years ago (in 2022 she was fourth at the World Championships, sixth in the world championship field in 2023).

Rachele Mori is the first of those excluded: the under 20 World Champion, granddaughter of the great Fabrizio, stopped at thirteenth place with 68.52, fourteen centimeters from the turn. Among those admitted also the Moldovan Zalina Marghieva (71.33), the Polish Anita Wlodarczyk (71.27 for the world record holder), the Finnish Silja Kosonen (70.94), the Irish Nicola Tuthill (69.85), the Polish Malwina Kopron (69.13), the the Hungarian Reka Guyratz (69.06), the British Anna Purchase (68.91), the Azerbaijani Hanna Skydan (68.80), the Polish Katrzyna Furmanek (68.66).
