Good afternoon friends of OA Sport and welcome to the Live broadcast of the Roland Garros 2024 men’s doubles final between Bolelli/Vavassori and Arevalo/Pavic.
The Azzurri’s tough opponents beat Granollers/Zeballos 7-5 in the decisive set in the semifinal. The Spaniard and the Argentine were the couple of the moment after winning Rome and taking the number 1 in the race. Finalists at the Italian Internationals, they achieved the beauty of 10 successes out of 11 matches played between Rome and Roland Garros. The Azzurri, however, are the revelation of the calendar year, even if they find the couple who beat them both in Monte Carlo and Rome, always on clay.
Bolelli/Vavassori are currently third in the race, but they find themselves a handful of points behind Bopanna/Ebden, defeated in the semi-final of the lower part of the scoreboard. Their presence at the ATP Finals is now almost certain. The Croatian-Salvadoran pair also represents the Azzurri’s latest defeat in Rome. Italy has not won the Parisian men’s doubles title since 1959, when Nicola won Pietrangeli and Orlando Sirola. However, it was not yet the Open era, which is why the success of the Azzurri today would have considerable historical significance!
