After the announcement of the Benetton Rugby lineup for the quarter-finals of the United Rugby Championship, to be played tomorrow, Saturday 8 June at 3.30 pm, in Pretoria against the Bulls, the head coach of the Venetians Marco Bortolami explained, from the official website of the club, his training choices.

The coach began by analyzing the clash between the forwards, also motivating the choice to have a “heavier” bench compared to the “classic” 5+3 configuration: “The clash between the two forward packs will be decisive and for this reason we have opted to go to the bench with the 6 plus 2. There are also some changes to inject fresh and new energy from the first minute and the other boys will come off the bench to finish the job.”

Subsequently, speaking of the attacking midfielders, he explained the decision to immediately reinsert Malakai Fekitoa into the starting lineup by moving Tommaso Menoncello to the wing: “Between the midfield – he explains – we chose to move Menoncello as a winger and insert Fekitoa in the center to add the maximum physicality possible. Furthermore, Malakai gives us a lot of experience having already played games of this caliber many times; I’m sure he will make a great contribution.”

It should also be remembered that, in terms of precedents this season, the Bulls and Benetton Rugby faced each other very recently: last May 18th, again with the South Africans at home. In that case the match ended with a score of 56-35 in favor of the “Bulls”, but the result, although a knockout, still helped the green and whites to snatch those decisive points for the playoff race.
