Volley Tricolore makes a big bet: the new director of Conad will be the sixteen-year-old Simone Porro. Son and brother of art Simone is the last of the Porro brothers, the first Paolo has been playing in the SuperLega for four years, the last three with Milan, while Luca, the middle one, arrived in the SuperLega with Padova this year and temporarily is giving great satisfaction to De Giorgi at the VNL.
Simone, born and raised in Genoa (like his brothers in Colombo) born in 2007, 191cm, will only turn 17 next September. He had a significant youth career with Volley Treviso, with which this year he won first the U17 regional title and then the U17 national final, crowning the dream of the previous season in which Simone came second at the nationals again with the under17s : “The call from Reggio Emilia was definitely unexpected, I experienced a boom of emotions, because my heart was filled with joy. Despite the surprise, I had to stay focused on the current year, because with Treviso we were right at the peak of the season, and this repaid us with the results we achieved.”
Despite his young age he already boasts an enviable list of achievements, in fact he has won various tournaments with the national youth team, such as the under 17 European Championship: “The jump in category is a gap that can be closed, it depends on the will I have during the year, but that will undoubtedly happen, I want to test myself and work hard, I believe that the results will come this way, plus I have played a lot of time with the national youth team, where the level is still high, so I think I be ready to take this step forward.” – then continued Porro III – “Next season we will face a championship that becomes more and more competitive every year, as demonstrated by the rosters of the other teams that are preparing, we will try to make the best championship possible by taking advantage of all our means available to grow and we’ll see what results we can achieve.”
Loris Migliari, DG of Volley Tricolore: “Simone’s is a bet that the whole club believes in, it’s an idea that came out almost by chance and as we worked on it it developed. It was difficult to give an outline to this choice, first of all to find a school, another setter who could be someone who stimulated the idea of the role of “big brother”, we are therefore looking for a player who is suitable for this project and we we feel we are on the home stretch. For Simone we analyzed how to proceed together with the family, because we are still talking about a minor, who is still in high school and has new needs for society.
