F1, Sergio Perez wins and renews with Red Bull for two years: Sainz and Tsunoda mocked

Red Bull officially announces the renewal of Sergio Perez for the next two years in F1. The Mexican will continue to team up with Verstappen. Nothing to do for Sainz and Tsunoda

Sergio Perez will continue to be a Red Bull driver for the next two years. After months of murmurs, the team has secured the Mexican who made a good start in 2024 and then got lost a bit along the way in terms of results. But it doesn’t matter, his name will now be out of the drivers’ market for a while.

Red Bull focuses on stability and does not upset its team

The indiscretion about the renewal began to circulate this morning, with Bild reporting on its website the possibility that the Mexican would continue to occupy the Red Bull seat for the 2025 season with a 1+1 contract. With the new structures in the team therefore postponed to 2026, the season in which the new regulations for single-seaters will come into force.

In reality the extension of the collaboration is every two years, in the name of continuity in the team as stated by the team principal Christian Horner: “We are very pleased to continue working together with Checo. Stability is important for the team and both Checo and Max represent a solid and successful partnership, securing our first ever double for the team in last year’s World Championship. Checo has had a good start to 2024 with second places in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Japan and podium finishes in China.”

Perez is currently fifth in the drivers’ standings, with the last few races a bit disappointing (eighth in Imola, forced to retire after a scary accident in Monaco). But Red Bull needs, as we have seen, stability and balance after troubled months between the Horner case and the rift in the teamand the resulting Verstappen stomachaches.

How the market changes after Perez’s renewal

And this decision brings some clarity to the market (driven in recent days by failure to confirm Esteban Ocon in Alpine). We can definitively exclude Carlos Sainz from a sensational landing in Red Bull, with the Spaniard which remains disputed for now between Audi and Williams. But also the internal resource Yuki Tsunodawho after his apprenticeship in the RB satellite team sees the chance of a promotion to the first team disappear.

Perez snatches a two-year renewal from Red Bull

Checo, on the other hand, hit the jackpot, because he managed to get his team a two-year renewal, and not annual with possible possibility of extension. His satisfaction is clear through his official statements: “I am happy to stay here to continue our journey together and contribute to the great history of this team for another two years. Being part of the team is an immense challenge and it’s something I love. I want to thank everyone for all the trust they are placing in me, it’s a lot and I want to repay it with excellent results both on and off the track.”
