Positive news and chronic discomfort for the sea of Naples in the summer of ’24. Despite the rain that discouraged diving and sunbathing over the weekend, with the calendar in hand, the hot season of the year has begun. It is no coincidence that the obligation to book online for the free beaches of Posillipe comes into force today, after the signing of the protocol between the Municipality, the Port Authority and the Sirena, Bagno Elena and Ideal beaches. No limited numbers at Mappatella Beach, where we work on the installation of platforms and sports structures. Degradation remains on the seafront, particularly on the rocks, which are often receptacles for various rubbish and weeds. In this regard, the fragmentation of competences between entities weighs heavily. In general, bathing opportunities have increased slightly, but the lack of sea that has always afflicted Partenope remains. Let’s see the rules and scenarios of summer ’24, beach by beach, from East to West.
Palazzo Donna’Anna
Let’s start with Posillipo, remembering the rules for bookings. The limited number applies only here and at Gaiola (which we will deal with shortly). In summary, there are 500 places available in the surroundings of Palazzo Donn’Anna: bathers will be able to book on www.spiaggelibere.it for a maximum of 3 times a week and will have to access the beach from the three aforementioned beaches, whose services can be used (total 500 places, of which 450 at the Nuns). From this year, on the initiative of the municipal councilor with responsibility for the Sea Edoardo Cosenza, the app, made more efficient, will free up the “live” places: those who book but do not show up by 1pm, in practice, lose access and he frees it for someone else.
Gaiola
Let’s stay in Posillipo, but let’s move on to Gaiola. Here too you must book, but on www.areamarinaprotettagaiola.it. Compared to ’23 there are no substantial changes: «The system is tested – argues Maurizio Simeone, director of the Submerged Park – Access is divided into two shifts. In the morning (9-13) and afternoon (14-18), each of which provides 200 swimmers. You can always book, but at the end of the last shift of the week, reservations for the following week are opened.” Basically, you book from week to week, for a maximum of 3 times. Then a curiosity, which also serves as a warning: «Anyone who has booked but doesn’t show up receives a penalty – concludes Simeone – and can no longer book for 14 days”.
Seafront
The Partenope seafront which is experiencing the golden season of tourism is certainly not as beautiful as it should and could be. Wild plants and small jungles on the rocks. Dirt, sewage. The jungle, however, is also about skills. «On the cleaning of the cliffs, which are not strictly the responsibility of the Sea Service – specifies Cosenza – there is a complex interaction with the Port Authority and various municipal components. The idea of a task force, however, could be good.” The responsibility for the maintenance of the rocks, explains the official responsible for the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, belongs to the Metropolitan City, such as the cliff in front of the Bourbon Arch. The tufaceous ridges are the responsibility of the Municipality, or of condominiums on private properties (see Posillipo from Donn’Anna to Coroglio)”. The installation of the platforms, however, also involves the Urban Planning Department.
Mappatella beach
As for Mappatella Beach, the main news is explained by Cosenza: «We have confirmed all the beaches from last year, with equipment, chemical toilets and showers. Also at Mappatella Beach. Here we are thinking about installing new sports equipment. We are in the organizational phase, but we are evaluating structures on the Bagnoli model, such as beach volleyball or beach rugby, or a bowling green. Still on the Mappatella, we will then guarantee more accessibility with platforms for those with motor disabilities. This action last year made a great contribution, and in this regard I also thank councilor Luca Trapanese.” Precisely in Rotonda Diaz, the other day Europa Verde, with the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra deputy Francesco Borrelli, organized an initiative in defense of “green, the right to blue and free access to the sea”.
Clear sea
Let’s go back to Posillipo. TO Clear seawhich in recent years has unfortunately been the summer scene of brawls and stabbings among minors, raises the issue of safety. The Village Association asks that the guard not be lowered on the controls: «The structures are active, only the Lido delle Rose will not open. Given the violent episodes of recent summers, thanks also to the Il Mattino campaign, the police commissioner Agricola came to visit in 1923 and a significant intensification of controls followed, in the square and on the sea side. We ask that the same happens in ’24. As for the shuttle, it is available on restricted traffic zone days, i.e. on weekends. It will be extended to every day from July 1st. We ask for action to be taken Palace of Spirits, where the barbicans persist and dangerous dives are recorded. The risk is twofold: the already damaged Domus Romana could be damaged and the children risk their lives: it is a unique monument in the world, to be valorised. Instead he is abandoned to abuse. We would like there to be free beaches here health, hygiene and safety facilities».
Bagnoli-San Giovanni
The sea to the East and West: both on paper would not be suitable for swimming, but in reality they are frequented by thousands of swimmers. Officially, you can sunbathe here. The news concerns the possibility of diving in Pietrarsa. «In San Giovanni we confirm heliotherapy – continues Cosenza – on both beaches. Only small protected areas are excluded. Swimming on the side is then confirmed by Arpac Pietrarsa: it’s the first year, after a long time. So the withdrawals will continue.” Moving on to the West: «In Bagnoli we will open the beach like last year, with bathrooms, beach volleyball, platforms and showers», concludes the councilor.
