Paris, 29 June 2024 – Former first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, according to the media, she was summoned for a possible investigation into her ininvestigation into Nicolas Sarkozy, opened after the retraction in 2020 of the accusatory testimony against the former French president by the intermediary Ziad Takieddine.

The story is part of the developments in the investigation into alleged financing of the presidential campaign of 2007, won by Sarkozy, with Libyan funds. Sources close to the investigators have reported that the former top model and singer risks being charged with crimes such as complicity in influencing a witness or criminal conspiracy aimed at bribing Lebanese judges. The former première dame, during the summons of which the date is not known, could be put under investigation with the more favorable status of “witness informed of the facts”.

Last May 2nd, Carla Bruni was interrogated for 3 hours by investigators, to whom she had tried to explain what her relations were with a key figure in the affair, Michèle Marchand, known as Mimi, a leading figure in ‘people’ journalism in France, suspected of orchestrating the witness’s reversalthe middleman and businessman Ziad Takieddine.
Who is Ziad Takieddine?
In 2020, Takieddine, considered by Sarkozy to be his main accuser, suddenly exonerated – temporarily – the former president, contradicting his own previous accusations. Investigators have long suspected several people close to Sarkozy – family members, collaborators, loyalists – of having organized the retraction to undermine, in the subsequent investigation, the credibility of Zakieddine himself, who after a few weeks backtracked and denied the retraction.
The investigation
The former premiere dame is already questioned twice by investigatorsbetween June 2023 and May 2024. The investigation was opened three years ago. Sarkozy was indicted in October.
