A special Sunday with a wonderful double in the magical setting of Mugello for Ducati, dressed in “blue” for the occasion: a sumptuous Francesco Bagnaia won the Italian GP ahead of Enea Bastianini.
The reigning world champion, starting from fifth place, took the lead during the first lap, overtaking Martin in the first S and containing the Spanish driver’s attacks in the second part of the GP, increasing the advantage until the end of the race. Second position for a great Enea Bastianini who passed Martin at Correntaio during the last lap.
Fourth place for Marc Marquez ahead of Pedro Acosta, Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Thanks to the double success in the Sprint and the Italian GP, Pecco moves to -18 points behind the leader of the general championship classification Martin: “It wasn’t easy starting from fifth place, I chose the strategy of going from the outside and it paid off. Then I pushed hard. Winning, after a weekend like this, is incredible. I’m happy for Enea, she did an excellent job.”
“It’s incredible, after a difficult period where something wasn’t right today I pushed like a bastard and I’m really happy. I slept towards the middle of the race, then when Marquez overtook me I understood that I had to push and recover. I saw Martin close by, I understood that it was possible to finish second and I overtook him. I’m very happy, we needed a home result. I dedicate this second podium to my dog who passed away a week ago, she was my little girl,” Bastianini told Sky Sport.
