The former Ferrari engineer reveals: “We hated Vettel, but then…”

Ruth Buscombe, a former Ferrari engineer, has revealed what it was like working with Sebastian Vettel when he arrived at Maranello.

A testament to how special Seb was comes from Ruth Buscombe, the face of F1 TV from this year. The former Ferrari engineer worked at Maranello from 2012 to 2015, she told the podcast The Fast and The Curious how his relationship with Vettel has changed over the years.

Of course in those seasons the German was conquering victories and world titles in Red Bull. All at the expense of Fernando Alonso, at the time the Rossa’s top driver. It is therefore not difficult to imagine how they saw Sebastian in Maranello.

“I can never say enough nice things about Sebboth as a human being and as a pilot” Buscombe explained. “I could never have imagined, ten years after meeting him and with him already retired, saying positive things about him because in 2012 I was at Ferrari and we hated that man“.

“He and his finger were the worst thing. But we were very excited that he was joining Ferrari. He was just too good, the rival par excellence”.

“I didn’t know he would become my friend and one of the most important people in my life. She gave me great life advice as well as packing extra snacks for plane rides, which is what you want from a human being. But yes, it was really special.”
