Lando Norris triumphed at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix. So much emotion for him as he achieved his first victory in Formula 1

It has just finished Miami Grand Prix 2024sixth round of the Formula 1 season. The weekend with Sprint format in Florida it was a good start for the McLaren which brought, despite the frenetic pace, a substantial update package to the MCL38 of Lando Norris. The British driver demonstrated already in the first and only free practice session that he has a decidedly competitive race pace. The performances were also confirmed during the Shootout qualifications, so much so that he achieved a lower time in SQ2 than the pole position achieved by Max Verstappen. With the switch from the medium tire to the red in SQ3, Lando Norris lost the speed he had previously, thus having to settle for a comeback Sprint.
THEThe rest of the weekend got worse. Despite the race pace we had during the 100km race, Lando Norris was forced to retire after a chain contact with Lewis Hamilton, Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. The McLaren driver did not give up, giving his best in the races traditional qualificationswhere he conquered the fourth starting box in the 2024 Miami Grand Prix. As the lights went out for the long race, the number #4 of the Woking team confirmed that he had the right speed to annoy the Ferraris and Max Verstappen who were in front of him. At the first and only stop of the three-time world champion from Red Bull, Lando Norris took the lead of the Grand Prix.
Lto Safety Car taking to the track on lap 28 allowed the 24-year-old from McLaren to enter the pit lane to make his stop without losing first position. Upon the return of the SC, the British managed to defend against Max Verstappen’s attack who was behind him also creating a notable gap between the two. At the end of the scheduled 57 laps, after 110 Grands Prix contested since his debut in Formula 1 and since his last time in Formula 2 in 2018, Lando Norris climbed to the top step of the podium, thus achieving his first victory in the top category.
“It’s about time, I’d say. What a race. I waited for it for a long time and I succeeded” he has declared Lando Norris at the end of the race. “I’m happy for my whole team. A long and difficult race, but I’m finally on the top step. I’m over the moon. We went well all weekend, I had a few setbacks along the way but I knew we had the pace even if I made some mistakes. Perfect strategy, it paid off. Thanks to everyone at McLaren obviously. I am proud of this team, they have helped me over the years. Today we put everything together and this victory is for them. I stayed because I believed in them and they in me. Today we all won together” concluded the McLaren driver.
