Violi’s team wins 22-17: next Saturday against Viadana it will be a real semi-final

On the second day of the Serie A Elite playoffs, Valorugby beat Colorno 22-17 and achieved a success that earned them the chance to play for the final: Violi’s team gained 4 points and returned to the edge of Viadana, with 5 points. Zaffanella, scheduled for Saturday 11 May at 5pm, will be a real semi-final between the two teams. Nothing to be done for Colorno, who tries but fails to go beyond the defensive bonus, closing the playoff group without a win.
The first points of the match went to the hosts, with Ledesma hitting the posts in the 10th minute from an easy position. Violi’s team continues to push but remains embroiled in the battle at the meeting point, where Colorno has his say and recovers many balls in the middle of the field. The overtaking comes in the 20th minute: Waqanibau does well to pave the way for Albert Batista to pass the ball and pass two opponents and serve the goal ball to Van Tonder.
The match is close and is overturned by an episode: the ball is poorly controlled by Pescetto in mid-field, Bertaccini rushes onto the oval like a fury, opens the throttle and flies to the flag. Ledesma’s conversion grazes the post and goes out, but Valorugby are ahead 8-7.

Pescetto himself immediately redeems himself by kicking in the new lead, but then in the 36th minute the Colorno midfielder is booked for a tackle without the ball on Majstorovic. Valorugby gives up the posts and goes for a throw-in: the choice pays off because the maul is advancing and Silva scores the goal to make it 15-7 which ends the first half.
In the second half, despite the man less, Colorno started the attack, then once recovered Pescetto insisted further and in the 51st minute he scored thanks to his number 10: splendid kick for the run by Pavese who burned Farolini and Ledesma and dunks for the equalizer. The try, however, was annulled by Gnecchi due to a previous forward move, considered controllable by the TMO because from that moment on, according to the referee, there had never been any ruck, and therefore no phase (forward moves are verifiable by the TMO within a limit of 2 phases before marking).
Valorugby responds once again by relying on an advancing maul, collapsed by Colorno a few meters from the goal line, with Popescu paying with a yellow. The hosts continue to insist with a series of charges, then Renton opens up to Colombo for the third try. The home team fails to find the bonus mark, while at the end of time Colorno scores the flag goal for the final 22-17. Valorugby remains in the running for the final, and everything will be played out in the Viadana match next week.
