Wheelchair rugby arrives in Badia

BADIA POLESINE (Rovigo) – After the knowledge gained thanks to Federico Lubianplayer and team manager of Borsari Rugby Badia, and to the kindness and availability of Italian champions of Asd Padova and Mastini Cangrandi Verona, wheelchair rugby will also arrive in Polesine, more precisely in Badia.

A delegation from Borsari Badia went to Cittadella on Saturday 2 March to attend the Wheelchair Rugby Super Cup Final which saw the triumph of Asd Padova against Polisportiva Milanese. The experience truly thrilled the players and members of the management who immediately worked to organize an event to present this magnificent sport also in Badia Polesine.

So on Saturday 4 May, at 4 pm at the Palazzetto dello Sport (via Manzoni) in Badia Polesine, they will face theAsd Padova Rugby and the Veronese formation of Cangrandi Mastiffs. However, we know that in rugby even friendlies are real matches, especially if we consider that what will be played will be a real derby between two Venetian teams.

The event, organized under the patronage of the Municipality of Badia and with the collaboration between Rugby Badia 1981 and Rugby Junior Badia 2.0, is open to anyone who wants to discover – with the possibility of trying – this sport that continues to pass on and bring health values. Entry to the match will be free and the invitation is to come in large numbers to a unique match!

At the end of the friendly match you will be able to meet the athletes and spend time together at the Third Half in the Rugby Badia clubhouse at the Nuovi Impianti Sportivi in via Martiri di Villamarzana (Badia Polesine).

The president of Borsari Badia, satisfied with having organized this derby, Massimiliano Dolcetto. “It is an important event, it is the first wheelchair rugby match to be played in Badia – declares Dolcetto -. The hope is that we can, as soon as possible, create a Polesine team and therefore give the opportunity to play rugby while also having fun to children with disabilities who cultivate a great passion for this sport that makes us feel like we are part of a big family. I thank the teams from Padua and Verona for the opportunity they gave us, but above all the people on our staff who immediately took action to make us aware of this reality. It will be an event not to be missed!! After the match we are waiting for you all in the Rugby Badia clubhouse to celebrate together and play the third half.”

Way back in 2018, thanks to the Panathlon club Rovigo, there was the first friendly match between the Doges selection and Toulon at the Palazzetto dello Sport in the capital.
