Fabrizio Piccioni: “We have started to change MIsano and we want to continue doing so”

Fabrizio Piccioni, Mayor of Misano Adriatico since 2019, is at the end of his first mandate. The “Choose Misano” list made up of the Democratic Party, the socialists, Italia Viva and independents re-nominated him for a second mandate.

Piccioni and the outgoing council present themselves with an important, positive outcome: “We have started to change the city and we want to continue doing so. By unanimous opinion, Misano has become more beautiful, more attractive and for a totally tourist city like us this is important. Last year’s numbers say 800,000 presences, 13% more arrivals, 8% more overnight stays: one of the best results among the coastal municipalities”.

Misano has reached 14,300 inhabitants; since it still has under 15,000 inhabitants, we vote with the majority system: the election of the 16 municipal councilors takes place at the same time as the election of the mayor. The candidate for the office who obtains the highest number of votes is proclaimed mayor. There will be three lists that will compete for victory on 8 and 9 June: “Scegli Misano”, candidate for Mayor Piccioni; “Mignani Sindaco” supported by Forza Italia and Fratelli d’Italia, candidate for Mayor Antonio Mignani (but there are very few Misanians on the list); “Let’s turn the page”, candidate for Mayor Marcello Tonini. The latter is a civic list but supported by representatives of the League. Tonini comes from the PCI and was a member of the PDS, the DS and the PD. Former general director of ASL Romagna; from 1990 to 1995 councilor for Culture and Public Education of Misano with the Mayors Sergio Morotti and Sandro Tiraferri. Piccioni tells us: “I spoke to Marcello many times. I considered him a friend, to whom I could sometimes ask for advice. He’s sorry. I don’t understand, like many of his friends. The voters of Misa will decide.”

Returning to the final balance, Piccioni tells us that in these five years 20 million euros have been invested in the area. The works carried out (the seafront, the arrangement of the roads, the interventions on landslides, the street furniture, the improvement of the schools, the pedestrian/cycle path that leads into Porto Verde, the networking of the roads between the different neighbourhoods) contribute to that overall improvement of the City. These are resources that come from the Emilia-Romagna Region and the national PNRR. “This has allowed us to keep local taxation unchanged over the five years.” Among the works nearing completion, Piccioni’s face lights up when he tells us that the new sports hall is now ready, serving the Misanese sports clubs, but also capable of hosting large events combining sport and tourism. As is demonstrated by the activity of the Santa Monica motor racing circuit, which has never been so full of major sporting events as in recent years. “We need to enhance sports tourism more and more by taking advantage of our renewed facilities a stone’s throw from the sea and capable of giving a big boost to deseasonalisation”.

Contacts and collaboration with Società Autostrade and the Emilia-Romagna Region are continuing for the construction of the new link road on the SS16 to ease traffic on the current state road.

And among the important works Piccioni also includes everything that satisfies the needs of citizens through targeted social policies. “The pandemic has demonstrated the importance of the network of local health services and local welfare. Precisely for this reason we want to put the person and their needs at the centre”.

Misano has a young population of school age: while the nursery schools fully respond to the demand, in the last two years there has been the formation of a waiting list (thanks also to the regional and state contributions given to families) for the nursery school, “which we intend to remedy quickly”. “We then intervened several times on the three elementary schools and the middle school to equip the buildings with all the necessary services. The school understood as an educational community represents a fundamental point of reference for our community”.

And finally the most important administrative result: the final adoption in December 2023 of the PUG, the new urban planning instrument that will design the structure of the City for the next decades. “The editorial staff of the PUG was started six years ago by Mayor Stefano Giannini. We were the first and to date the only ones in the Province to have the new urban planning instrument in line with the provisions of Regional Law no. 24 of 2017. This law has completely changed the concept of urban development of the territory: stop land consumption, regeneration, recovery, reuse of the existing are the new cornerstones of municipal urban planning tools. In particular we intend to preserve the seaside areas of the railway. The PUG does not provide any building index. The City Council will decide and approve future building interventions, in the exclusive interest of the public”.

The Program drawn up by the “Scegli Misano” list, the result of the contribution and collaboration of many, is full of commitments for the next five years: “Commitments that we make to give a good governance response to the needs of our community, from the environmental, social, educational and economic”.

Piccioni is 53 years old. He has a degree in political science. He is married with a daughter. A long political and administrative activity behind him: municipal councilor of Misano since 1999 for the Italian Communists and municipal councilor since 2000. From 2009 to 2019 Deputy Mayor with Mayor Stefano Giannini. Mayor since 2019. Member of the PD since 2023.

Already a provincial councilor in the 1990s, since 2022 he has been a provincial councilor with President Jamil Sadegholvaad, with responsibility for urban planning and the drafting of the PTAV, the provincial urban planning tool.

Continuity and renewal, experience and new faces, these are the characteristics of the 16 councilor candidates on the “Choose Misano for Fabrizio Piccioni Mayor” list. The launch of Piccioni’s electoral campaign and the “Scegli Misano” list took place during the meeting with President Stefano Bonaccini on 27 April with over 300 people present.

Mayor Piccioni is optimistic: he thinks he has worked well in these five years and that the voters of Misa know it. And so let’s vote for him, for reconfirmation for the next five years.
