After the appointment a few weeks ago, the operational phase begins for Dr. Maria Greca Piras, former school director and former coordinator of various projects headed by the Ministry of Education, now citizen guarantor of children’s and adolescents’ rights .
In the Fresco Room of the Ex Capuchin Convent today the meeting with the Mayor Graziano Milia, who took the opportunity to wish her well in her work, and a first fact-finding meeting with the top management and the operational arm of the Social Services Department of Quartu . Present were Councilor Marco Camboni, Director Lorena Cordeddu and the social workers who work in the Service.
The appointment last April, immediately effective, followed the establishment of the role, with a resolution of the City Council which had also approved the relevant regulation. The Guarantor will remain in office for the entire duration of the Mayor’s administrative mandate and for a maximum of 6 months beyond its expiry.
It was a first fact-finding meeting with the entire Minors Area of the Department and also with the Disability Area, which often finds itself cooperating with the former. It allowed a focus on the many activities carried out by the Department, with the opening of various centers dedicated to young people, aimed at promoting socialization and helping them in the transition from the world of school to that of work, but also necessary for improving relationships intrafamilial relationships and for increasingly more specific attention to the protection and needs of adolescents.
The activity of the Guarantor for Childhood and Adolescence, which will concern the right to life, development, participation and listening to our young people, both on an individual and collective level, will benefit from the great experience accumulated over the years by the doctor Piras working within the school community, which is the first antenna for those involved in social issues, because it guarantees very important and precious information. And it will therefore be a point of reference both in the event of serious events and on ever-current issues such as school dropout.
On this occasion, some operational proposals were also put on the table. The school year now almost over will in fact allow us to study, also in synergy with schools, new interventions and new procedures aimed at encouraging young people to study and facilitating certain bureaucratic processes for parents which in some cases are still complicated.
