Inzaghi studies the anti-Milan moves: the role of the wingers is another key point in the match which could be worth the second star
Four goals embedded in last four games of the championship between Napoli, Empoli, Udinese and Cagliari: only against the Tuscans did Inter’s goal remain clean. A figure that goes against the trend of the season, practically a quarter of the total goals conceded throughout the season (17). Against the Milanin the derby which in case of success can be worth the second star, Inzaghi it therefore starts again from the search for a partially dented defensive solidity. In particular, correcting the flaws that were evident against Cagliari: more than against Napoli or Udinese, it is the defensive phase (coverage of the midfield, control of the flanks, synchronism of the three central defenders) that has shown more than one flaw (something similar if it was also seen against Empoli). The push of Theo Hernandez and Leao on one side and Pulisic on the other, the central incursions of Loftus-Cheek and Reijnders and the depth dictated by Giroud are Milan’s strengths to be neutralized.
Then comes the offensive phase which will benefit from Lautaro’s return: the Argentine, looking for a goal that he has missed in the league for six days (the last goal against Atalanta on 28 February), he is also fundamental in the construction phase, which was more evident than ever against Cagliari when his absence was heavy not only inside the opponent’s penalty area. The same Thuram, who instead found the goal against the Sardinians, has in the Argentinian the ideal partner to be able to free his run and cut through the opposing defense with his bursts. Once again, as in the five previous derbies won by the Nerazzurri, the flanks will be decisive: the push of Dimarco and Dumfries (the Dutchman is currently favored over Darmian) is what has most put Milan in crisis in recent matches, on a par, at least, with the incursions of Mkitaryan, balancer of the Nerazzurri midfield but also relentless scorer in the Champions League derbies and championship. Having said that, with the resumption of training yesterday, at least one other doubt remains regarding the formation choices in addition to the one already mentioned relating to the right wing: in defence, where Pavard’s return is certain, there is De Vrij who threatens Acerbi, who appeared dull and tired against Cagliari. As of today, Inzaghi has the entire squad available and still has four days to think about everything with the utmost calm: in the scudetto derby it will be the smallest details that make the difference.
