Serie A Elite Cup: Lyons beat Fiamme Oro

The first day of the Serie A Elite Cup, the trophy parallel to the top Italian rugby championship, has been recovered.

Lyons and Fiamme Oro were on the pitch at Montano in Livorno on Thursday 28 March, with the Piacenza team coming out on top 20-14 at the end of a hard-fought match.

A first half characterized by the supremacy of the men led by Bernardo Urdaneta was counterbalanced by a crimson-brand recovery, but towards the end a couple of placed players put the match in the hands of the Lyons.

The match saw many young players on the pitch, as usual in the Serie A Elite Cup: Lyons fielded Italy U20 prop Sergio Pelliccioli and the two 2003 Accademia delle Zebre players Alessandro Filoni and Bradley Henderson from the first minute; the Fiamme Oro have given space to center Ferdinando Fusari, born in 2004 with two appearances at the U20 Six Nations. Many elements of the respective under 18s have found space in the race list.

Two tries for each side: Henderson and Bolzoni for the Lyons in the first half, Costantini and Caruso for the Fiamme Oro in the second half. Two finishes in the last 8 minutes by Russo from Piacenza decide.

The Lyons have finished their matches in the Serie A Elite Cup and are first in the standings with 14 points, awaiting the last four matches involving Colorno, Mogliano, Vicenza and Fiamme Oro.
