After 21 years spent around the world treading the taraflexes of the temples of national and international volleyball, the director Davide Saittaborn in Catania in 1987, returns to Sicily to wear the shirt of Saturnia Acicastello In the 2024/25 Serie A2 men’s volleyball championship. Saitta has been on the volleyball courts since he was very young and in this journey he has achieved many successes, both at club and national level, with which the Sicilian setter has won several trophies including, the most important, silver at the European Championship 2013. Last November, during the 2023/24 season, he said goodbye to Cisterna to move to GKS Katowice, in the Polish Plusliga.
“I have been missing for 21 years and I had already felt the emotion of returning home, as an opponent with Cisterna, on my debut at the PalaCatania of Saturnia – he immediately explains Saitta -. For me it will be a great source of pride and it is even more so to know that I am part of a team equipped to win and try to return to the Super League as soon as possible.” Saitta explains that what convinced him was the president’s enthusiasm Pulvirents: “He is certainly a great volleyball fan and it is nice to see him so attached to a project he firmly believes in, knowing however that he has made the most of a year spent in the Super League, despite the relegation. Indeed, it is from there that he is starting again together with the company, looking towards continuous improvement”.
Saitta, who just yesterday played his last match with GKS Katowice, the team he joined last November and which achieved the goal of salvation, is now ready to put himself under the orders of Placì: “We will have to work well every day and we will all have to do it together. The A2 championship is a long and difficult one, where everything is decided in the end and we will have to get there in top form. I will put my experience to use, even if I still feel like a kid, ready to improve day after day. I know almost all the players who are already part of this project and I recognize their great technical and moral qualities, they are people who know how to do well.”
PLAYER CAREER
Davide Saitta began playing volleyball in 2002 with Milvus Catania. The following season he moved to the Latina youth team from which he directly accessed the A1 playing with the club’s first team. Since then he has worn the shirts of prestigious teams in the Italian Super League, from Treviso to Latina, passing through Forlì, Perugia, Vibo Valentia, Padua and Cisterna. Saitta also has a long career abroad behind him. Since 2014 he has played in the French Ligue A and won the 2015/16 championship with the Paris shirt. Since November 2023, after starting the season with Cisterna Volley, he has played in the Polish Plusliga with GKS Katowice.
