The Giro d’Italia 2024 is approaching and, as the days pass, differences emerge regarding the route, compared to what was originally defined. Generally it is not new, but, as in the case of the first stage, the one arriving in Turin, stage number 6, scheduled for Thursday 9 May, has undergone quite significant changes. The stage that goes from Viareggio – Torre del Lago Puccini – to Rapolano Termefor a total length of 180 kilometers (177 were initially planned), will in fact present a wider overall difference in altitude and will see an even more complicated finish, given the inclusion of a tear right at the end.
In detail, the first change concerns moving the first Mountain Grand Prix of the day, which has been positioned at Volterra (about ten kilometers before La Bertesca, where it was originally placed). From there a central part will begin which includes a series of more frequent ups and downs than the original design, especially in the Casole d’Elsa area. However, the three sectors of dirt road that will characterize the stage remain unchanged, that is Vidritta, Bagnaia (already addressed with Strade Bianche) e Pievina. In the finale, the organizers have included the climb that leads to the village of Serre di Rapolano, which will end 4.2 kilometers from the finish.
