Matteo Trentin he is the point man for the Classics of the Swiss Tudor Pro Cycling Team: “Ghent was a tough race as always, it never changes, in fact it’s a type of cycling that goes faster and faster. I didn’t have my leg on Friday at the E3, where I was certainly better and I was less brilliant in the race, probably also due to some problems with my shoe that I had on Friday which caused me some discomfort after pedaling crookedly“.

This year a new adventure has begun for you at Tudor. How do you feel in the team?

“I would say very well, it is a young team that has a great desire to grow. I’m happy with the choice I made, it’s a nice environment and I get on well with everyone, from the staff to the riders.”

At Tudor you found sporting director Matteo Tosatto who you have known for some time. What is the relationship between you?

“We were colleagues first and then friends. I am very pleased to work with him and I am happy to have started this adventure together.”

Dainese will be the man for the sprints at the Giro and you will be part of his train. What are his potentials?

“We are preparing to support him as best we can, at the moment we have not yet raced together because Alberto has been out of action following his injury, but I am sure that we will be able to find a good feeling in the race, he has already shown excellent things, now he has to find the right continuity to take the next step”.

What do you like about the Tudor project?

“It’s a long-term project, they started off on the right foot by investing first in the staff and then in the riders and I think that as a team we are growing in the best direction.”

Did the change in training allow you to find new stimuli?

“More than new stimuli, because the objectives are always the same, it allowed me to find a breath of fresh air. I am the most experienced man in the team and I will support the younger ones.”

So what are the objectives?

“The Classics were the first objective of this season, on Sunday I will be at Flanders which is certainly an important event, then Scheldeprijs and then the Giro”.

Italy will only be able to field three runners on the road at the Paris Olympics. Have you already spoken to coach Bennati?

“Coach Bennati knows that I would like to be at the start of the Olympic Games and I will make sure I am ready. Then it will clearly be up to him to decide.”

In this cycling where the very young are champing at the bit, how do you feel?

“Good, I feel good. I’m always there, it’s true there are many new young people, but for now I’m not doing badly; I feel like I’m still competitive.”
