The outburst of Giulia Cecchettin’s uncle after Turetta’s confession: “I hope your family abandons you to your worst nightmares”

Never before has it seemed almost impossible for Giulia Cecchettin’s uncle to think of responding to Filippo Turetta’s family. After the details that emerged from the interrogations of the boy, in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend on 11 December, Andrea Camerotto vented on social media: «The Turetta family contacted us asking to forgive Filippo. I never responded and I don’t deny that, at this moment, I am not willing to forgive.” As reported by the Gazzettino, the brother of Cecchettin’s mother, who passed away from cancer a year before the death of her daughter, adds: «I hope that your family abandons you to yourself with your worst nightmares. Otherwise there is no point in responding to that message from six months ago.”

The message to which Giulia Cecchettin’s uncle refers came from the Turetta family, who had asked to forgive Filippo. Since last November, the family has decided not to make any more public statements, while maintaining open contact with the Cecchettin family. Camerotto then explains: «I know that Flippo’s parents wrote to Gino on the occasion of the holidays, and that they also attempted an approach with him, asking him to forgive their son. I don’t know what he replied, but they wrote to me too and I never replied. I don’t want to blame Filippo’s parents and I don’t think Gino wants to either, I hope that theirs is an attempt at rapprochement dictated by sincere heartbreak and not a way of trying to defend the indefensible to lighten the position of their son.” Camerotto then concludes: «Forgiveness will come when they don’t try to take Filippo out of prison or in any case not make him serve the sentence he deserves. They must support our family 100%, only in that case can we talk about forgiveness.”

Camerotto avoids commenting on what emerged from Turetta’s interrogations, with the details on how he had planned and decided to kill Giulia Cecchettin. He, like the rest of the family, says he wants to transform, as far as possible, their tragedy into help for the “other Julians”. And so, faced with the latest very harsh information, Camerotto says: «We don’t want to remember Giulia in the images of the cameras of the Nave de Vero, next to her killer. For us, Giulia is in the photos of her that she had sent to her sister that evening, when she had tried on the clothes that she was supposed to wear for her graduation. She was so happy. We cherish those images as only a family can.” Giulia Cecchetin’s uncle refers to the photos of her sent from the shopping center to her sister, still unaware of what would have happened to her. «It is not pleasant for our family to read certain details – concludes Camerotto – Gino certainly knows more than me but I don’t allow myself to ask him if he doesn’t feel like talking first. The important thing for us now is to have faith in justice and look forward, as Gino is doing with the foundation in Giulia’s name.”
