In a political story made up of many film micro-scripts, French President Emmanuel Macron was Giorgia Meloni’s antagonist at the G7 in Fasano. Image also fueled by a certain flow of social virilism, which in the video clips has increased the intensity of the differences between the two leaders. A conflict that exploded after the European elections. Giorgia Meloni is an expression of the conservative bloc, which was able to claim victory, together with the Popolari (the only family of the outgoing majority to be rewarded), at the consultations. Macron, on the other hand, is one of the Big Losers, together with the Socialists. And for this reason, suffering the boom of the National Rassemblement in his homeland, he dissolved the National Assembly and set early legislative elections, for 30 June for the first round and 7 July for the run-off. The European elections, in fact, marked a further shock, evidently assessed as unsustainable by the leader of the Elysée, in a context already burdened by the absence of an absolute majority in Parliament, which had often forced the President’s centrist coalition into long negotiations.

Now, a very complex picture is emerging for Macron, a very narrow passage. On the right, in fact, there are the first, difficult attempts at an agreement between the moderate Republicains and Marine Le Pen’s party, which has created a semi-earthquake among the Gaullists who are competing for the leadership with stamped papers. On the left, however, the “New Popular Front” was created in just two days, i.e. a grouping that brings together four parties that belong to the area (the name recalls, mythologizing it, a similar successful project set up in 1936) . The Socialist Party, La France Insoumise led by Jean Luc Melenchon, the Communist Party and the Ecologists. Regardless of the outcome of the project between the Gaullists and Lepenists, the geography for Macron is not coming together in the best way. The French electoral system, in fact, provides for a double-round majority to choose the 577 deputies. And therefore, despite Macron’s call for “everyone but Le Pen” logic, the centrist coalition risks in many cases finding passage to the first round insurmountable. If the electoral competitiveness of Rassemblement is now established, the New Popular Front could have undoubted potential. Although confluences are never simple.

Yesterday, for example, discontent emerged in Melenchon’s party over the choice of candidates. And then there are political issues, pushed back in the wake of the urgency of building a project, which however could re-emerge later, as on the Middle Eastern question, where the positions of the socialists appear very difficult to be compatible with those of the more radical left (this last one crossed, as happens throughout Europe, by anti-Semitic impulses). On these issues, at least at the moment, a synthesis seems to have been reached. On the other hand, the socialist leader Raphael Glucksmann explained what the (real) purpose of the project is: «The only thing that matters is that the Rassemblement National does not win these elections and does not govern this country. The only way to do this is for there to be a left-wing union.” Therefore, an agglomeration born on the wave of the “anti”.

A dramatization that also called Macron’s predecessor, Francois Hollande, to return to the field, who as President left the Elysée with very low popularity and will now run for the legislative elections. “We must all do everything to ensure that the far right does not come to power in France,” he said when announcing his candidacy. The logic of the Apocalypse on the one hand agitates the streets (yesterday nine people arrested in Paris for riots during a demonstration “against the far right”). On the other hand, it already finds support in illustrious testimonials. This is the case, for example, of the footballer Marcus Thuram, an Inter striker, who yesterday, after the retreat of the French national team for the European Championships in Germany, stated: «We must fight so that the Rassemblement National does not pass».
