The Minister of Economy spoke at the hearing of the joint Budget and Transport Commissions of the Chamber and Economic Planning, Finance and Environment of the Senate on the sale of a share of the stake held by the Mef in the capital of Poste Italiane

«The sale of a portion of the shareholding held by the MEF in Poste Italiane will not lead to the loss of control over the company, which will continue to be exercised by the State. Furthermore, the Poste Statute provides that no person other than the MEF, public bodies or entities controlled by them, can hold a share exceeding 5 percent of the company’s capital”. Thus the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti in the hearing before the Budget and Transport commissions of the Chamber and Senate on the Post Office privatization decree.
Post Office transfer when income can be maximized
The minister explained that “the MEF will carry out the operation” of selling a share in the Post Office “at the most appropriate time to maximize the achievable income, trying to reconcile market conditions with the needs of public finance”.
Multi-step operation, status control
In particular, «the divestment operation represented in the Prime Ministerial Decree currently being examined by Parliament must be considered a framework that identifies a minimum value of the State’s participation, which can be achieved progressively and in several phases, in order to safeguard strategic control public on this asset.”
