Tony Martin explains why the new box doesn’t include “The Eternal Idol”

In a recent interview with Now Spinning, the former singer of BLACK SABBATH, Tony Martinspoke about the new box “Anno Domini 1989-1995“ released on May 31st and containing four of the five albums by BLACK SABBATH with him on vocals.

In fact, the box includes the remastered versions of “Headless Cross” (1989), “Tyr” (1990) and “Cross Purposes” (1994), as well as a new version of “Forbidden” (1995), specially remixed by the guitarist Tony Iommi. These albums were released for IRS Records.

Martin declared that the absence in the garage of “The Eternal Idol” (1987), the first of the albums he recorded with i BLACK SABBATH and which at the time was released instead for Vertigo Recordsis linked to the rights on the same:

“That record is on another label. Besides, it was already reprinted not too long ago, so we thought: ‘It’s already been done, let’s not go crazy and let’s get on with the rest’. Everything would have been blocked for ages in the midst of contracts and I’m not even sure they would have given the OK in the end. It was already difficult to convince everyone involved to play the other four discs. I’ve always agreed, because for me it’s an important part of my career and it’s ten years of my life, but others weren’t of the same idea and it took time to convince them.”

Some of these albums have been remastered for the first time for the vinyl format while the CD version contains three exclusive bonus tracks: the b-side “Cloak & Dagger“, “What’s The Use” And “Loser Gets It All“, the latter two previously published only in Japan. The booklet features previously unpublished photos and liner notes by Hugh Gilmour. Also included is the poster of “Headless Cross” and the tour book replica of “Headless Cross Tour“.
