Jena Malone isn’t done with Johanna yet and wants to bring her back to the screen by speculating on a Hunger Games sequel.
The universe of Hunger Games is constantly expanding. In addition to the main saga starring Jennifer Lawrencefrom the novels of Suzanne Collins a new prequel adaptation was made The Rime of the Nightingale and the Serpent focused on the origins of Coriolanus Snow. The announcement regarding a new adaptation, this time dedicated to the character of Haymitchwhich will be set during the 50th Hunger Games, therefore itself a prequel. In the meantime Jena Malonewhich he played Johanna Mason in the main saga, he admitted that he is waiting for a possible involvement and also has an idea for a sequel.
Hunger Games, Jena Malone wants a sequel: “Where have we arrived with the revolution?”
After The Ballad of the Nightingale and the Serpent, The Hunger Games will return to the cinema with a prequel dedicated to the character of Haymitch Abernathy as it is set during the 50th Hunger Games, the edition won by Peeta and Katniss’ future mentor. Based on the novel of the same name Sunrise on the Reaping, the second prequel has already identified its release date scheduled for November 2026, although to date the novel is still unpublished. Considering the potential shown so far on a cinematic level, it is not so difficult to think of the possible involvement of other Hunger Games characters. Jena Malone, for example, hasn’t completely archived hers yet Johanna, District 7 Winner which appears for the first time in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. To the microphones of Entertainment Tonightthe actress admitted that she would like to dust off Johanna and even proposed an idea for her return:
Come on, where’s Johanna Mason? I’m here waiting! I mean, we don’t even do a prequel, we directly do a sequel. Let’s see what happens in that world like 10 years later. Where is the government located? Where have we arrived with the revolution? I think it’s a really important part of our society. For example, yes, you can rebel, but then how do you rebuild?
Mockingjay saw Katniss lead the revolution and take down threats in her path. Panem got rid of President Snow, but how did the restart go? A question that intrigues not only Jena Malone, but also Hunger Games fans. Johanna survived the fight, as did Peeta, Gale and Haymitch. And while the latter has already received a prequel to his story, the other characters from the main saga could return with a potential sequel. Francis Lawrence, who has dealt with the dystopian world of cinema (except the first film), has admitted several times that he would have continued working on The Hunger Games if Suzanne Collins had decided to continue writing. At the moment, in fact, the author has not suggested a sequel with Katniss and Peeta, so Jena Malone’s proposal will have to wait.
