Why “Rock’n’roll Remnants”?
«Residues are the useless part of memories, like crumbs that fall when you eat. Mine are rock’n’roll because I’m rock. This phrase was a bit of a joker statement of mine (Grignani’s nickname, ed.), said years ago: I’ve been thinking about it ever since. In the meantime, give the title to the live show, then I’ll move on.”
Projects?
«The tour continues and I would like to play concerts at European festivals. Then there will be a book, a trilogy of records, Residui di rock’n’roll. Verde Emerald 1, then 2 and 3. I’ve been working on it for 7 years, they will be recorded live in the studio on tape. Things are done gradually, I have a lot of concreteness and great respect for people: I have been working (I don’t like to talk about a career) for years thanks to people.”
Will he propose unreleased songs at Alcatraz?
«I could, but I’ll see. The concert is a mirror, it depends on the audience’s feedback. I’ll do the songs that people love to sing, My story between the fingers, Destination paradise, but it will be a rock concert: emotional beginning, ending from which you leave sweaty. In between, songs that aren’t hits but that fit right in. It’s a show that puts music at the centre, there are moments of guitar improvisation on my part. The lights are spectacular. In Milan I know that the response will be strong, it also depends on the type of venue.”
What is your relationship with Milan, your city?
«I have affection for Milan and for the home crowd, my mother, my children and my friends will come to see me at Alcatraz.
In the last two years I see it better, five years ago it wasn’t like this. I don’t know why, it’s a feeling: here is all of Italy, Milan is a great shaker of Italians. Maybe that’s why I like it more.”
