Virtus Bologna snatches two more points by winning on the Bertram Tortona field with the final score of 84-77. The Vu Nere, supported by many fans who arrived from Bologna, pulled off a solid performance. After a first half of pure battle, in fact, Belinelli and his teammates built the gap in the third quarter, which was decisive for the final outcome of the match. The MVP of the match is Ante Zicic, dominant under the boards and well received by his teammates. With this success, Segafredo maintains its lead in the standings but to maintain it it will also have to win the next match, scheduled for Sunday 5 May at the Segafredo Arena against Trento.
THE NEWS.
First quarter of an intense game played by Virtus and Tortona. Both teams, in fact, immediately pushed on the accelerator, giving rise to a back-and-forth that kept the match in balance. Hackett’s seven points were not enough for Segafredo who went into the first break trailing 18-17. At the start of the second quarter there was a 10-0 partial score for Virtus. Ante Zicic was leading the Black Vu, dominant under the boards so much so that he reached double figures already in the first half. However, Strautins and Ross were responsible for keeping Bertam alive, as they scored the points that brought Tortona back to parity. Toko Shengelia’s basket just after the siren closed the first half, which ended with Virtus leading 41-39.
Upon returning to the pitch there was a new advantage for the home team, which was promptly canceled out by Segafredo with the help of the veterans. The impact had by Shengelia in attack and Pajola in defense made the difference in the third quarter and allowed Bologna to maintain the gap, which had become ten points in the 30th minute of the game. In the fourth period of the game there was Tortona’s last attempt at a comeback, stopped by a lively Polonara who came off the bench. At the sound of the final siren it was Virtus who rejoiced, emerging victorious 84-77.
