Inspired by the novel of the same name by Gaetano Savattieri published by Sellerio in 2016, The star factory begins with Saverio Lamanna (Claudio Gioè) returning to his press office job. In fact, he has to follow the presentation of the new film by Gea De Simone (Laura Adriani) at a Messina festival (in the novel, it is the Venice Film Festival). The director and producer’s older sister, Flaminia (Astrid Meloni), contacts him and offers him the job.

In reality the woman wants protect his sister from her boyfriend Alo (Simon Rizzoni). An Argentine actor with high hopes and little success, he has already beaten Gea. Meanwhile, Marina Tadde (Francesca Turrini), the colleague who, by reporting him, ruined Saverio’s life and career, forcing him to leave Rome, arrives to follow the festival. the woman and Picciniello (Domenico Centamore) immediately bond and Lamanna obviously doesn’t like it.

When Gaea is found dead, the accusations immediately fall on the boyfriend who has disappeared in the meantime. Enzo (Liborio Natali), producer and friend of the victim, enters the scene. The man accuses Flaminia of having always manipulated his sister and of having prevented the merger between her society and that of the woman. In fact, the sisters had created their own with the money they inherited from death of his father. Flaminia, says Enzo, wanted to maintain control over her sister. The two had reached an agreement: Gea had promised Arianna, who was more gifted than her, to produce her first “official” film as a director. the star factory… In reality, what Arianna didn’t know was that the new partner of Gea he had no intention of investing in rookie projects for at least 5 years.

Lamanna follows Arianna behind the scenes of the festival and makes her confess the truth. That is, by chance, she had listened to Gea and the new partner. When she asked her friend for explanations, angry at his confirmationhe had killed her.

The woman is arrested, but also Alo for private violence, failure to provide aid and resistance to a public official. Back home, Saverio meets Suleima (Ester Pantano). The girl is about to return to Milan. But before leaving she announces to him that she is expecting a child.
