Presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2024, Parthenope Of Paolo Sorrentino he clashed with some of the sacred monsters of cinema such as Francis Ford Coppola, who presented his Megalopolis, and David Cronenberg who competed with his The Shrouds.

While it has been announced that Parthenope will be released (we still don’t know when) in the USA distributed by A24, which has acquired the North American rights, we now know when the film will be released in Italy. In fact, Sorrentino’s seventh film to arrive at Cannes will be released in Italian cinemas on 24 October, as announced by the director himself on Instagram. The film will be preceded by a program of special screenings midnight from September 19th on.

The film revolves around a character called Partenope who, in Sorrentino’s words, bears the name of her city but is neither a mermaid nor the mythical figure linked to the creation of Naples, but rather her female alter ego.

The film tells the story voyage of Partenope from its birth in 1950 to the present day, accompanied by a series of other characters, against the backdrop of Sorrentino’s hometown, Naples, with its ability to fascinate and at the same time arouse danger. Here you can read our review.

The project is one co-production Italy-France and is produced by Fremantle and Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment Pictures, a Fremantle group company, Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent, Paolo Sorrentino for Numero 10, his new production company, and Ardavan Safaee for Pathé. Douglas Urbanski is the executive producer.
