Jim Carrey’s return to Sonic 3 is official and the confirmation for all fans of the highly anticipated third chapter comes directly from the teaser.
The clips, shown during CinemaCon, see Carrey in the role of Dr. Robotnik, the main antagonist of the film but with features more similar to his digital counterpart. For some time the actor had expressed the desire to be more like “Fat Eggman” and his presence in the new film, after an uncertain period in the world of cinema, confirms his commitment to the role and his enthusiasm for the project.
At the moment, details on the plot of the new film are still scarce but the producers have anticipated that Sonic 3 could even challenge the Avengers: the sequel to Sonic 2 – the film will take place after the events of the film and the television miniseries Knuckles and will introduce Shadow the Hedgehog. In addition to Carrey, the cast will see the return of Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Tika Sumpter, James Marsden, Lee Majdoub and Tom Butler. Krysten Ritter and Alya Browne recently joined the cast in yet-to-be-revealed roles.
Sonic 3, with a stellar cast and the addition of new iconic characters, will arrive in theaters on December 20th: all that remains is to wait for further details on the plot and see what this third chapter of the saga has in store for us.
