When does Megalopolis come out? After the latest news from the Cannes Film Festival, we take stock of the situation on the highly anticipated new film by the legendary director Francis Ford Coppola.
First of all let’s start by saying that Megalopolis will make its world premiere on May 17th at the Cannes Film Festival: the film, which in recent weeks was presented in some very private screenings for the director’s family, friends and distributors, will make its official debut on the red carpet of the Croisette, where Coppole will return after the two historic Palmes d’Or for The Conversation and Apocalypse Now.
But unfortunately, Megalopolis currently doesn’t have a release date: it has been confirmed that the film will be released next autumn and will also be distributed in IMAX, but Coppola’s team is currently still trying to find an agreement with a distributor that can satisfy the director’s requests (who dreams of a promotional budget of 100 million ) and bring the film to both American and international theaters. However, a few days ago Coppola himself had declared the choice of a film festival for the presentation of Megalopolis it would have been subject to a distribution agreement, which means that perhaps something has moved behind the scenes in the last few hours.
