Inspections: the rate of irregularities rises in Liguria. Calà (CGIL) “The Region should invest in the quality of work and fight irregularities”

Liguria confirms a very high irregularity rate, higher than both the average of the North-West and the national one: 75.4 percent against 68.9% and 69.8%, and increasing compared to 71.7 % of 2022.
The data, processed by Marco De Silva Head of the Cgil Genoa and Liguria Economic Office, are contained in the 2023 inspection activity report of the National Labor Inspectorate which detects irregularities in health and safety at work, tax and social security contributions.

“The lack of a public control, prevention and repression with respect to illegal and gray work and health and safety at work translates into the increase in irregularities found by the inspections conducted by the Inspectorate – declares Maurizio Calà General Secretary of CGIL Liguria – this data should worry the institutions: these are conditions which, together with precarious work and cascading subcontracting, represent the fertile ground where distortions in the labor market arise and it is the task of the Liguria Region to reverse this trend by investing more in the quality of work”.

According to the data, in 2023 only 1.7 percent of Ligurian companies were affected by an inspection and this despite the fact that the number of inspections increased slightly: 2,206 compared to 1,801 in 2022.

“It is a picture that we have been denouncing for some time and which indicates how the Ligurian economy, for a non-irrelevant part, is based on precarious and irregular work and also for these reasons the CGIL has decided to launch 4 referendums for stable and dignified work , protected and safe. We must restore centrality and dignity to work and the CGIL referendums go in this direction” concludes Calà.
