The Watchers: A clip shown at CinemaCon offers further details on the film

The Watchers

To the CinemaCon new footage has been revealed of The Watcherswhich gives us an idea of what to expect from his directorial debut Ishana Night Shyamalan. To date we know that the supernatural film created by the director’s daughter M. Night Shyamalan revolves around strangers trapped in a box inside a forest and who are observed by mysterious creatures, who seem to react to everything they do. The new footage – described by ScreenRant – features Mina di Dakota Fanning talk to his parrot, telling him that he is about to go out and that he must “try not to die” before the two get stuck in the forest.

However, his car crashes and disappears. Mina then ends up finding a woman who opens a door that leads to a room with a one-way window where there are monsters outside, but she can’t see them. Mina then explores a cave where a monster is hidden. The film also reveals psychological elements, with a woman believing her dead husband is on a television screen before someone escapes and is apparently killed.

The Watchers has already been presented as a unique supernatural horror story, with unknown monsters and strange locations. This new film, which is very cryptic, therefore emphasizes some aspects of the film that are already known, such as the room with the one-way window and Mina who at a certain point wanders out of this same room. The premise of the film therefore reflects the novel on which it is based, written by AM Shine.

However, the movie also introduces new concepts, revealing that The Watchers it could have a more psychological than monstrous twist. While on the one hand Shyamalan’s daughter could show off her own cinematic style that differentiates her from her father, on the other it is also possible that she follows in his footsteps by presenting an ending with an unpredictable twist. If the film has a twist ending like his father’s films, then the TV screen showing a dead relative could be a clue to what’s really happening.

The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who becomes stranded in a vast, pristine forest in the west of Ireland. When Mina finds refuge, she unknowingly becomes trapped with three strangers who are watched and haunted every night by mysterious creatures. You can’t see them, but they see everything. The Watchers features protagonists Dakota Fanning (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, “Ocean’s Eight”), Georgina Campbell (“Barbarian,” “Suspicion”), Oliver Finnegan (“Creeped Out,” “Outlander”) and Olwen Fouere (“The Man from the North”, “The Tourist”).

The film is directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan and is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan and Nimitt Mankad. The executive producers are Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer. Together with the debut director, the director of photography is part of the technical cast Eli Arenson (“Lamb”, “Hospitality”), the set designer Ferdia Murphy (“Lola”, “Finding You”), the editor Job ter Burg (“Benedetta”, “Elle”) and the costume designer Frank Gallacher (“Sebastian”, “Aftersun”). Music is instead of Abel Korzeniowski (“Till”, “The Nun”).

The Watchers which will be released in international cinemas starting from June 5, 2024 and in North America the June 7, 2024. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
