This was revealed by Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal who admitted that neither she nor Kevin Feige had any idea of Zendaya’s popularity when the actress proposed for the role of MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first chapter of the saga dedicated to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: “To be honest, Neither Kevin Feige nor I knew who he was – Pascal told Vogue – She had no makeup on and was dressed like a normal girl, and we were like, ‘Oh my God, she’s amazing. She has to be in the movie ‘And then we found out that she was this totally famous person and we felt really stupid“. This element proved to be successful for Zendaya who was able to demonstrate her value away from the less demanding roles she had covered in television shows.
The Challegers star fondly remembers Spider-Man:Homecoming: in the role of MJ, the actress made his big screen debut in the MCU maintaining her role for two more films (there is already talk of Zendaya in Spider-Man 4) effectively increasing her popularity which has made her one of the youngest but already highly sought after faces in Hollywood.
