The Justice of the Peace of Belluno accepted the appeal of a fined person: the signage does not comply with the law. Let’s talk about the most famous speed camera in Italy, or at least the one that has earned the local administration a great little treasure…

THEthe famous Passo Giau “killer” speed camera was declared illegitimate by the Justice of the Peace of Belluno. The Altvelox.it site that he had registered communicates this to us in due time our protest.

The pass is well known to bikers for its beauty and also, of course, for the…trap. It is located in Municipality of Colle Santa Lucia, in the Province of Belluno; the mountain village has just 355 souls and only one policeman, but it was capable of collect over 550 thousand euros in fines in 2021something like 1,555 euros on average for each resident.

Well, too that speed camera – says the Altvelox site – for a few days and thanks to the legal assistance of the lawyer Roberto Iacovacci from Latina, it was declared illegitimate by the Justice of the Peace of Belluno, Dr Gianni Bottoli. Reason: the “notice signage does not comply with the law”.

Of course, the story does not end here: the municipality can appeal and sometimes the Justice of the Peace has been denied by another Justice of the Peace. It also happened in Milan, when the speed camera in viale Fulvio testi was declared illegitimate because it was inaccurate and unstable on the support poles, but was later “rehabilitated” by the same office of the Justices of the Peace…

The awareness remains: the device on the Giau pass is emblematic of how public administrations are always very attentive to prevention on the roads in the name of safetythus collecting considerable taxes that would be unthinkable otherwise.
