PESARO Investigation into adulterated milk, the Pesaro regional councilors in the agriculture and production activities commission will ask for clarification from Amap, (Marche Agriculture and Fishing Agency), the certifying body “controlled” by the Marche Region. In recent days the NAS have seized around 90 tonnes of milk and 110 tonnes of dairy products, as well as around 2.5 tonnes of adulterated substances, in this specific case caustic soda, for a total value of just under 800 thousand euros.

The investigations

The checks were carried out at the Fattorie Marchigiane plant (controlled by the Cooperlat group) in Colli al Metauro, a dairy products warehouse in the Treviso area and an agricultural company in Valmarecchia. The investigations directed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Pesaro aim to ascertain the use of adulterating and adulterating substances in the production circuit of large-scale retail dairy products. The investigations involve 9 people and 3 companies. Among those under investigation is also Francesco Caverni, a laboratory technician from Amap, the certifying body controlled by the Marche Region, which appoints its Board of Directors as it is one of the “supervised public bodies”. The clarifications that the regional councilors of the Agriculture and Productive Activities Commission will request are bipartisan.

Prudence

In fact, there is Giacomo Rossi (Civici Marche) who underlines: «I would like to point out that before putting a local company and its jobs in a bad light, we must be cautious in our statements and wait for all the investigations and the normal procedures of Justice. It is necessary to be a guarantor and the competences fall to the judiciary. However, we want to acquire information regarding Amap and we will evaluate whether to convene the Board of Directors to clarify and acquire further elements in the agriculture commission. The objective is to delve deeper into the issue.”

The questions

Regional councilor Micaela Vitri (Pd) adds: «An Amap hearing at this point becomes necessary to clarify how the controls take place and to have all the elements available. He will also consider a question to delve deeper into an issue that concerns public health.” The unions also intervene in the case. «We learn with amazement the news that has appeared in the information control bodies regarding the investigation that is affecting a company of the Cooperlat group – they write in a note -. As trade union organizations in the agri-food sector, Fai Cisl, Flai Cgil and Uila Uil of the Marche, we are on the side of legality, respect for the rules and always ready to report irregularities of all kinds. Without prejudice to the presumption of innocence, as food safety and health are at stake, we trust in the work of the relevant authorities and hope that the truth emerges as soon as possible with respect for consumers, internal workers themselves and related industries, also to protect the image of quality of the entire sector”.

The reassurances

We remind you that Cooperlat Tre Valli announced that «the checks on the products placed on the market did not reveal any anomalies». And that the inspectors “were able to ascertain the perfect condition of the environments from a hygienic-sanitary point of view and the equally perfect conservation and integrity of the products found there”.
