L’Aquila, Piazza Chiarino is revealed
The event will take place on Wednesday 3 July at 5:30 pm. Piazza Chiarino handover ceremonywhere the redevelopment works financed with resources from the Complementary Plan for the areas hit by the 2009 earthquake and Central Italy have been completed. During the evening, which will be attended by the mayor of L’Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi, a performance by the cellist and sound artist is expected Flavia Max.
Another important return for the community of L’Aquila, a few days after the emotional return to the church of San Pietro a Coppito, the first Capo Quarto church returned to the city. The redevelopment project in one of the main squares of the historic center has returned some testimonies of great importance for rereading the medieval history of the city. In addition to the discovery of some burials without grave goods and some stone and brick finds from the disappeared church of Saints Giustino and Martino, during the operations a white stone statue about 37 cm high representing an armed warrior also emerged. It could be the depiction of a nobleman or, more likely, of Saint Christopher, characterized – according to iconographic custom – by a thick beard and marked facial features.

The reopening of Piazza Chiarino was one of the most eagerly awaited places considering the central position of the area, which is home to many commercial activities. The paving of the Square began at the beginning of May, and new street furniture and new lighting were installed.
The construction site was started in October 2023. The one in Piazza Chiarino is an intervention that cost around 700 thousand euros.
