Parking for the sea, summer in Puglia begins in chaos: municipalities looking for solutions

Chaos temporary parking in the tourist resorts of Puglia. Close to the peak period of the summer season. Having passed the 45 days reserved for the evaluation of the plans presented by the Apulian Municipalities, for the subsequent observations of the Puglia Region, now it is time for the municipal bodies: which, to bypass the emergency dictated by an extremely rigorous bureaucracy and with cars parked even on the cliffs , they promptly took action.

Some municipalities have solved the problem, others have given a mandate to the offices to prepare the documentation by attaching the counter-deductions even if the closing of the circle could materialize on 7 July, a date circled in red by many Apulian mayors because the amendment should be approved on that day to the Cohesion Decree which would allow parking spaces for up to 500 spaces to be set up even in park areas without any environmental opinion.

As long as they are temporary and removed within 180 days. A thorny and delicate issue that is affecting some of the most famous tourist locations in Puglia, such as Gallipoli and Otranto, since the main issue concerns precisely those parking areas that fall within natural parks and sic areas.

A Gallipolifor example, the mayor Stefano Minerva has already communicated that it has sent the findings and activated the shuttles to the beaches; on the opposite side of the coast, the mayor of Otranto, Francis Brownhas instructed the office to proceed with the observations “to respond to the Region, enhancing the positive contributions and to counter-argue any negative technical-legal observations”. The two mayors are in any case aligned on the same vision: that is, oriented to accept the amendment that would allow the preparation of new parking areas near the coast to allow citizens and tourists to easily enjoy the sea.

And while the vast majority of municipalities are waiting for the approval of the amendment, in some places, the car parks were already opened this weekend which anticipated the month of July.

This is the case of the Municipality of Ostuni where the mayor Angelo Pomes explained how a free parking area had already been created some time ago and was reactivated this year. The same choice was adopted, a few kilometers further south, by the mayor of Melendugno, Maurizio Cisterninofor the marinas of Torre dell’Orso and San Foca. Here, after the positive opinion of the Superintendency, in fact, parking areas were opened also because, in these parts, the areas identified do not fall within the SIC area as in Gallipoli and Otranto.
