We look at history but we must also educate for peace

We believe that historical events, which have affected our city since ancient times, should be revisited and studied; they help us understand the present and our identity. Marked in time, among these historical events there is no shortage of wars. Something that Lucca Historiae Festival has been able to revoke in recent days by setting up various events along the ramparts of the Walls. But while recalling our past, let’s say warlike, we believe that it would be appropriate to begin educating the new generations, starting from elementary school, to a culture of peace, with programs that explain to them that all wars, past and present, have been and remain for humanity a catastrophe on a par with cataclysms.

In short, we should resort to a reversal of thought, no longer considering the so-called great leaders of history as heroes, but only ancient men with another culture, who have had their day, now far surpassed. So much so that any intention of war should be renounced to channel it into a logic of peace. Only with a new way of thinking and acting, we believe that we could achieve what almost all of us in our hearts would like, but cannot find the means and strength to express it out loud. Peace, as an act of justice and human, social and planetary equality. But, to achieve this, we need to acquire an innovative and courageous culture, which knows how to get rid of the old and ideological man that we carry inside.
