Heatstroke: Man dies in Varese area
The sun is probably the cause of the death of a 41-year-old man, who died after being transported by helicopter to the hospital in Legnano (Milan). It is possible that heat stroke was fatal. The incident happened around 5pm yesterday along the Sempione in Sesto Calende (Varese). Some passers-by provided first aid. The man was collapsed on the ground in a state of confusion.
112 and the Carabinieri from the Sesto Calende station quickly intervened on site. The 41-year-old, resident in the Gallaretese area, was moved to the shade while ice was recovered from a nearby restaurant to try to lower his very high body temperature.
Given the situation, the medical staff arranged for transport to the hospital where the man arrived in cardiac arrest and where he died shortly after being admitted to the Emergency Room. As mentioned, the heat and high humidity could have significantly contributed to the illness.
