The ASD Centro danza Matera closed the academic year with a 3-day event

The 2023/2024 academic year of the University of Bologna ended with an intense and demanding three days.ASD Dance Center of Matera directed by Mary D’Alessio. A year in which the young students had the opportunity to express themselves at a regional and national level, achieving important recognitions (https://giornalemio.it/cronaca/a-firenze-podio-nazionale-per-le-allieve-dellasd-centro-danza-di-mary-dalessio/). The first two days (which included training classes and performances) were hosted in the enchanting location of Palazzo Viceconte (formerly Palazzo Venusio), a noble palace from the 16th century, located in the suggestive historic center of the City of Sassi.

June 24th started with a stage of “Contemporary” directed by the teacher Caterina D’Angelo, including a “intermediate/advanced and two kids classes”. Qthen, to follow, an open lesson of the dance preparatory courses conducted by Mary D’Alessio herself, with the “little mice” of the school who demonstrated how through play you learn the basics of Dance…and perhaps the beginning of a passion. Very good and very excited they carried out the lesson admirably supported by the loving looks of parents and relatives. A first great success for them, marked by many open applauses.

On June 25th, two open lessons of the I° and II°-III° academic courses were held, in addition to the group “big” which staged a series of performances choreographed by teachers Mary D’Alessio and Francesca Giacoia, some of which were awarded in the national competitions of Campi Bisenzio (May 2024) and regional competitions of Potenza (April 2024). Parents, relatives and friends – constituting the large audience of this second day – were solemnly welcomed in the atrium of the building by the students and by the director-teacher Mary D’Alessio herself (who transformed herself into Cicerone for the occasion), then accompanied into the ancient hall which made the atmosphere in which the performances were staged even more suggestive and magical.

At the end of the same, between greetings and hugs, the strong bond between families and students with this school emerged, which, since 1989 when it was born, has proposed itself as a solid and qualified point of reference for training in Dance (some young students have made this passion their job), pursuing in a rigorous and professional way the artistic-sporting objectives for which it was born.
On this occasion, director Mary D’Alessio stigmatized “the lack of a space suitable for dance in the City of Sassi which failed to seize the opportunity in which it was the European Capital of Culture to create a multipurpose site that could accommodate disciplines such as ours”.

The activities of the last of the three days (June 26) took place in the premises of the same dance school in via Guglielmo Marconi, located in front of the point from which – on the longest day of the Matera people – the triumphal chariot of Bruna starts. First a stage make-up course, with the makeup Artist Francesca Colangelowhich gave the dancers of the advanced course the opportunity to learn the basics of theatrical make-up and thus be ready and autonomous in competitions and shows, but also just to enhance themselves and take care of their appearance. So, a hip-hop course with the master Shooting Framea talented dancer and teacher of urban and free style dances, who led a class with the intermediate and advanced groups, curious and enthusiastic about studying a new style. At the end of so much energy spent and so much sweat, goodbye to the new year, taking with him the beautiful experiences lived and that have enriched the personal, human and artistic baggage of each of the students of the Dance Center.
