The Two Bari 2024: the program of free cultural events

BARI – There are hundreds of summer events included in the program of Le due Bari 2024 – Neighborhoods united by culture, defined following the public notice promoted by the municipal department of Culture for the creation of live entertainment activities in the peripheral areas of the city and financed for 555,370.33 euros by the General Directorate of Entertainment of the MiC and for 955,000 euros from POC Metro resources, for a total amount of 1,510,370.33 euros.

The twenty-eight funded proposals, which from July to September will develop over 400 free events in the squares and meeting places of the five city municipalities, with events ranging from music, theatre, dance, circus arts and cinema, were illustrated this morning at Palazzo of the City by the councilor for Culture Ines Pierucci in the presence of the mayor Antonio Decaro, the director of the Culture division Luciana Cazzolla, the RUP Lisa Pietropaolo and the representatives of the successful tenderers.

Le due Bari, now in its third edition, was created to ideally unite the center and the suburbs by bringing widespread and free events to the squares, theaters and meeting places of the five Municipalities, with a structured program that includes music, theater, dance, performing arts, with special attention dedicated to children.

“In these years we have worked to rebuild a cultural community capable of communicating with the entire city – declared the mayor Antonio Decaro -. Le due Bari was born precisely from the desire to create opportunities for widespread and horizontal culture that were accessible everywhere and for anyone. We gave life to this project by relying on the expertise and experience of the cultural operators of the area who in recent years have been protagonists of large and small events in all the neighborhoods, in the best-known and most unusual locations, accompanying citizens to discover of beauty and culture. Le due Bari also represented an important policy of social animation, encouraging moments of socialization and presence in the most difficult squares and places”.

“Once again the Department of Culture supports the Ministry and supports the cultural operators of the area by promoting a program of live shows with over 400 free events throughout the city, including 250 shows and 161 workshops spread across 35 public places and theaters and private cultural spaces in the city – he commented Ines Pierucci -. As part of the strategy of the Department of Culture, since the beginning of this mandate we have wanted to ensure the right to culture through the accessibility and valorisation of all neighborhoods of Bari according to an approach that has allowed us to rediscover and animate cultural public spaces such as the Mizzi garden and Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Loseto, the waterfront of San Girolamo, Piazzetta San Nicola and the gardens of Prato Lagemma in Carbonara, Piazzetta Eleonora in San Pio, Parco Princigalli in Mungivacca, Piazza dei Mille and the Cristoforo Colombo seafront in Santo Spirito, Torre Quetta, Rossani park, Maugeri park, Gargasole park, Orto Gentile, Piazza della Torre in Torre a Mare, Largo Annunziata and Largo Apricocca in Bari Vecchia, Piazza Santa Maria del Campo in Ceglie.

I would like to underline that the resources allocated to the Le due Bari programme, two thirds of which come from European funds and one third from ministerial resources, represent the political result of a broad action shared with the culture councilors of all the Italian metropolitan cities . Even before this project, in 2020, in the critical post-covid phase, we chose to invest decisively in the decentralization of the cultural offer with the Cultural Arenas project first, then with the Sound Municipalities of the Petruzzelli Foundation orchestra, with San Nicola in the Municipalities and with the open-air museum in the San Paolo district, which today boasts over twenty murals created by internationally renowned artists. Without forgetting that in the coming months Edoardo Tresoldi’s work in Santa Scolastica will ideally dialogue with Guido Van Helten’s enormous mural intervention on the grain silos of the port.

The polycentric city is one that constantly promotes cultural policies in all city districts, with a transversal offer that addresses everyone by putting people at the center, that audience without which live entertainment would not exist. Culture outside institutional places and inside neighborhoods, among people, is the figure of this political time of the city.

Furthermore, today, with the concert in Calcutta, the three-day Locus festival opens in Bari, included in the program of La Festa del Mare, which until the end of August will also see the programming of Bari Piano Festival, Bari in jazz and Premio Rota.

Let the summer begin!”.
