Heat emergency, the unions’ requests

After the municipal ordinance on the blocking of work services for workers exposed to the sun during the hottest hours, by the Municipality of Taranto and also the Municipality of Martina Franca, the CGIL together with FILLEA, write to all the mayors of the province ionic.

“Significant heat waves are expected and it is important that public administrations keep a high level of attention on a phenomenon that can determine the fate not only of those who work in the countryside but also on hot scaffolding – comment the general secretary of the CGIL of Taranto, Giovanni D’Arcangelo and the secretary of the FILLEA category, Francesco Bardinella – therefore CGIL and Fillea ask that this happen with ordinances similar to those already issued which impose a ban on work from 12pm to 4pm, using the Worklimate 2.0 monitoring tool which measures risk indicators territory by territory”.

The Puglia Region has also activated a similar ordinance, but only with regard to workers in the agricultural sector, while workers exposed to risk are a much wider audience. The letter from CGIL and FILLEA Taranto was sent to all the mayors of the province of Taranto and it is hoped to have an immediate response soon as did the Municipalities of Taranto and Martina Franca which immediately understood and issued an ordinance to secure the male and female workers.

In the meantime, at a national level, the Government continues to be urged to provide a structural and organic response to workers exposed to climate risk. The CGIL, in fact, is asking for regulatory intervention on a national basis for access to the redundancy fund for climatic events outside the 52 week period.
